Tannoy Houseboat in Seattle- The Villiott Home

Scott Heston, of Heston Technical, took on a project that is located off the Seattle shore, which he claims is, “not the everyday sort of thing that we do.”  The project involved a 1,500 square foot houseboat that was custom built from the floats up by owners, Mike and Kristy Villiott. They wanted to have a fully integrated entertainment system installed, which would allow them to have clear, consistent sound throughout their home—whether it meant they were watching movies on the main floor, or listening to music while practicing on the rooftop putting green.

The Villiots and Heston agreed on incorporating a comprehensive suite of Tannoy speakers throughout the home. “They wanted the entertainment system to flow throughout the house, inside and out, [with] the latest equipment, as well as easy control of the system,” says Heston.

How to create an acoustic “slice of paradise” on the high seas.

Noise is a subjective experience: It has distinctive effects on individuals based on their sensitivities to sound. The physiological effects of noise vary from person to person.  For example, a hearing-impaired person may be susceptible to further harm when exposed to excessive noise levels.

Recently, a SoundSense client with a hearing problem asked if the noise from his yacht could potentially harm his hearing.  After a quick reading with a spectrum analyzer and an interview, we realized that the noise levels were, indeed, hazardous to his existing condition.

NuVo Music Port Server and Color Touch Pad

NuVo’s new Music Port Server (NV-MPS4) and Color Touch Pad (NV-CTP36) are now available. While the Music Port Server is compatible with the Essentia system, the Color Touch Pad is not.

The Music Port Server merges PC-based audio content (from Windows Media Player and iTunes) from a home’s network, and merges it into a comprehensive music library by storing all the files onto a 320GB internal hard-drive. The Music Port Server also has the ability to access songs from other sources such as Sirius/XM radio, Pandora, and RadioTime.
